St. Alphonsus Pre-K at OLM
how to live like saint alphonsus
1. Place Jesus Christ at the Center of Your Life
St. Alphonsus had a profound love for Christ, especially in the Blessed Sacrament and the Passion.
Action:
Spend time in Eucharistic adoration. Reflect daily on Christ’s suffering and love.
2. Honor and Imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary
He had deep devotion to Mary and wrote extensively about her virtues.
Action:
Pray the Rosary daily and imitate Mary’s humility, obedience, and trust in God.
3. Practice Daily Mental Prayer
Alphonsus strongly recommended meditation and considered it essential for salvation.
Action:
Set aside time daily for silent, reflective prayer—especially meditating on the life of Christ.
4. Develop a Tender Conscience
He stressed the importance of avoiding sin and being sensitive to God’s will.
Action:
Examine your conscience daily. Go to confession frequently, as he recommended.
5. Study and Follow Sound Catholic Teaching
A Doctor of the Church, he wrote many theological works, especially on moral theology.
Action:
Read trustworthy Catholic books and teachings, especially on moral living and Church doctrine.
6. Live a Life of Simplicity and Detachment
Despite being wealthy and successful as a lawyer, he renounced worldly success to follow God’s call.
Action:
Practice detachment from material things and seek God’s will above all.
7. Serve the Poor and Abandoned
He founded the Redemptorists to preach to the poor and most spiritually neglected.
Action:
Volunteer or support ministries that serve the spiritually and materially poor.
8. Be Zealous for Souls
Alphonsus tirelessly preached, wrote, and guided souls, always urging people to turn to God.
Action:
Share your faith through words and actions. Help others grow closer to God.
9. Persevere in Suffering and Trials
He endured rejection, illness (including debilitating arthritis), and slander.
Action:
Offer your sufferings to God and unite them with Christ’s. Stay faithful in adversity.
10. Cultivate Humility
Though a brilliant scholar and lawyer, he accepted humiliation and correction, even stepping down as bishop when asked.
Action:
Embrace correction, admit faults, and rely on God’s grace rather than your own strength.
11. Practice Frequent and Fervent Communion
Alphonsus advocated for frequent Communion as a source of grace.
Action:
Attend daily Mass if possible, and always receive the Eucharist with love and reverence.
12. Write or Reflect Often on the Things of God
He was a prolific writer, creating devotional and theological works for all audiences.
Action:
Keep a spiritual journal, write reflections, or read a short devotional each day.
